History of The RENAISSANCE
History of The Renaissance: You are enjoying the eclectic atmosphere within Dana Point’s “OLDEST” commercial building! Through the years, this historic building has been the home for many dreams!
Timeline:

1925: Sydney Woodruff (the land developer of Hollywood) built the core of the building (bar area & wine           room) for the sole purposes of a garage & maintenance shed for his equipment in developing Dana           Point. He dreamed that someday, Dana Point would be the focal point of “Charm and Beauty”.
1965: A gentleman, Bud Boagni, purchased the building and leased it out to an auto repair shop. Yes! That         grungy old concrete floor that your feet are on is the original floor where those vehicles pulled in for
  repairs.
1975: La Marina Antiques Refinishing took over the lease and you can still see stains from the lacquer in          the concrete floor.
1981: The birth of the wine bar! “Ye Old Dana Point Café Wine Bar” was established. The original door still          remains in the front entrance.
1986: The “Green Room” was added to the front of the bar area for wine tasting and turned into the             primary gathering area.
1994: The patio area was FINALLY built, and Renaissance Café was established. The patio area up until                 this time was actually “Old Golden Lantern” .  The city rerouted Golden Lantern to allow for access               to the harbor. That same year Chef Bill Milton joined the Renaissance and still remains today! Jazz              & blues bands began playing in front of the old “cork wall” located in the front of the room.
1998: A local dentist sat at the end of the bar enjoying the food, wine & listening to the “Dan Lefler Band”          every Tuesday night w/ a dream of some day playing in his own band & owning a similar live music          venue.
2000: That dream came true when he got the opportunity to play drums for that same Tuesday night band          and in:
2002: That dentist purchased THE RENAISSANCE and created the venue you see today. He still jams on                 the drums every Wednesday night w/ “The Danimals”.
